Building the Church through three Biblical principles. Matthew 28:16-20; Ephesians 4:11-12; Colossians 2:6-7; Mark 12:30-31; Romans 12:1-8

“Make Disciples”

“Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

                                                                                                                        Matthew 28:16–20

Intro – Simple Church [Thom Rainer and Eric Geiger]: Wanted to filter the idea through the “Great Commission”

Process: Worshipà Discipleship à Service

For the Building up: Ephesians 4:11-12 like a house “Constructing lives”

So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, 12 to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up

                                                                                                                                                                                                                        Eph 4:11–12.

Building as a continual process in the church: Colossians 2:6-7

So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, 7 rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                        Colossians 2:6–7.

·       Simple framework.

·       Simply Stated.

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul [Worship] and with all your mind [Discipleship] and with all your strength.’  [Service] 31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ [Internal/External; Shared Mission: Applied to the World] There is no commandment greater than these.”

                                                                                                                                                                                                                        Mark 12:30–31

·       Simply Tracked.

·       Nothing New. Something Old.

·       Engaging all.

1.    Worship: The Capstone

·       Intro to the Great Commission “They Worshipped Him”

·       Imperfect – But Some Doubted

·       Baptizing – The First act of Obedience

“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy,

to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. [Worship: The Capstone Concept]

2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. [Discipleship]

·       Placement – Where Jesus Told them to go

3 For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. 4 For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, 5 so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. 6 We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; 7 if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; 8 if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully. “ [Service]

                                                                                                                                                                                                Ro 12:1–8.

·       Under Authority – “All authority in Heaven and on Earth has been given to Me.”

Therefore………”

2.    Discipleship – “go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”

Teaching – Understanding God, Recognizing God

Obedience – Obeying God

Add Others à

3.    Service

To Church

To Others

“Go”

Add Several àEspecially External

Culture Shift à Growing, less controlling [no monopolies on energy or process]à Entrepreneurial

Regular Opportunities and One-of à Entrepreneurial

4.    “I am with you” Less programming and more principle means being open to Jesus guidance and presence in the moment

Jesus didn’t talk about programs the way we do

There was a process of deepening commitment, understanding and effectiveness

We did get numbers. How many were fed? How many fell away? How many were sent? How many were Disciples? Apostles? How many in the inner circle?
